80 Year Old Raises Funds for Vital Service

On Monday 2nd October Disability Direct staff took part in the Derby Legal Walk, organised by the Midlands Legal Support Trust, whose aim is to improve justice for the most vulnerable in society.

Nine members of staff from the charity and the Enabled Centre took part in the 10k walk and were joined by a dedicated member, Ray Bickley. Ray who is 80 years old accesses the services Disability Direct offer and wanted to join the team to give something back to the charity. The Octogenarian powered through the walk often overtaking people a quarter of his age and finished in 1 hour 40 minutes.

Sally Austin Director of Operations for the charity said “Ray is a true gent who will help out with anything we do, from supporting disabled youngsters at our community allotment to walking 10k, his energy never ceases to amaze me”

The team raised over £400 for the Welfare Rights service which offers free advice and information to disabled people in Derby.
