Poss+Abilities Joins DD
Disability Direct is delighted to announce the addition of the PossAbilities Dance & Fitness Group to its many services and projects.
Set up in 1993, Disability Direct (DD) is a user-led organisation and is one of the most successful locally focussed disability charities in the country and has supported over 100,000 people over the years. Meanwhile, PossAbilities, created in 2013 with a current membership of 29 disabled people who all show sheer determination to get fit and stay fit, boast a combined weight loss of 30 stone through dancing.
Lorraine Bhatti, Founder of PossAbilities says – ‘Coming under the banner of DD is going to give us greater access to resources which will only improve opportunities to reach and benefit more people. The current membership is very excited of becoming part of the DD family and the PossAbilities ahead!’
Over the many years both Disability Direct and PossAbilities have noted the continuous battle of weight and health management by disabled people. Often due to reduced mobility or inactivity, disabled people are more likely to be affected by fluctuating blood pressure, diabetes and other chronic illnesses if no action is taken.
Amo Raju, CEO of Disability Direct says – ‘Having PossAbilities as part of our services enhances our desire to extend services in health and fitness amongst disabled people. The energy in the dance routines is inspiring and all importantly shows that disabled people take an equal interest in their health. We look forward to taking PossAbilities to greater heights in the years to come!’
