Access Card – Meet Martin Austin
Who will support you?
CredAbility has team of staff made up of disabled people who can give you guidance with your application if you need it. The team is led by Martin Austin, Managing Director of Nimbus who has been involved with Disability Direct since 2001.
What does the project do?
The Access Card is designed to help disabled people evidence the fact that they do have an impairment or disability – but more importantly identifies what adjustments a provider might need to make for you.
It also links into CredAbility being able to provide you with information about opportunities, offers and discounts from organisations that have been assessed as being committed to quality for disabled people or as accessible venues.
CredAbility also work to get access to offers and discounts.
How much does it cost?
At the moment CredAbility are offering a discount to customers of Disability Direct and the card will cost just £7.50 for 3 years. When this discount ends the usual cost is only £15 for 3 years.
Where can I use my card?
The list of places to use the card is increasing all the time and for the latest information you need to head over to the CredAbility Website. At the moment places like The QUAD will accept the card and give a free ticket for a personal assistant.
How do I apply?
The application is online here. You need to answer a few questions about your medical conditions and how they affect you on a day to day basis. You then need to upload some evidence like a copy of a DLA or Dr’s letter, a copy of photo ID and a passport style photo. Once that’s done you can pay securely online through PayPal either with your own PayPal account or by Debit / Credit Card.
What if I can’t complete the online application?
If for any reason you aren’t able to use the online form just give CredAbility a call and let them know what format would work for you best. You can also come down to the DD office to complete an application during opening hours or just drop by to show you ID and evidence.
