Welfare Rights – Meet Rob Barfield & Alison Johnson
Who will support you?
Hi, I’m Rob Barfield, Welfare Rights and Benefits Advisor. I have been with Disability Direct since September 2010. Having used the welfare benefits system myself over the years, I fully understand how frustrating and difficult it can be to get the right information, for what is frequently a very complicated system.
With welfare reform and benefit changes high on every bodies agenda, the need for independent advice is as great as ever. I think people appreciate having a central resource that they can easily contact.
Hi, Im Alison and i started with Disability Direct as a volunteer and now work part time on the Welfare Rights team. My expertise is in disability benefits, but i have a wealth of knowledge in all disability related subjects, so please feel free to come to me for advice.

I have been turned down for my disability related benefit, will you support me at tribunal?
Yes, we are now able to take on appeals cases. We will support you from the initial reconsideration letter, right through to the tribunal.
Is it a free service?
Unfortunately, we have recently had to start making a small charge due to the funding cuts. The form fills are now charged between £5 and £10 each. The appeals cases, which involve some considerable time and paperwork is charged at £100.
Do you do home visits?
Not at the moment, you will need to visit us at the office on Pride Park or on the second Tuesday of each month at London Road Community Hospital.
Unfortunately due to high demand we do not offer a drop in service. Enquiries need to be made by telephone or email.
